Thornton Township To Host Free Workshop
Thornton Township is hosting a free property tax assessment and property after death workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15. Taking place at the township headquarters, 333 E. 162nd in South Holland, resident can learn about their upcoming homeowner assessment process that will begin in August and how to file tax
appeals. In addition, residents can learn how you can transfer their
home, car, and bank account to loves ones for free without the
need for a will, trust, legal fees or thousands of dollars in court costs.
"The Assessor's Office is central to government because we help our residents understand their property taxes," said Cassandra Holbert, Thornton Township assessor. "We act as taxpayers' advocate and our goal is to provide assistance and educate our taxpayers as they go through the assessment process."
"It's important for our residents to be knowledgeable about their
property tax assessments and know how to appeal if necessary,"
said Frank M. Zuccarelli, Thornton Township supervisor. "At Thornton Township, we have a dedicated assessor's office that every day works with our residents to ensure that the taxpayer's property is assessed fairly and accurately, and that they receive the best outcome for themselves and their families."
The Thornton Township Assessor's Office schedule meetings
throughout the year to explain the taxing process, how tax bills
are calculated, the valuing of property, any updates in the filing of
appeals, and provide detailed information regarding tax exemptions.
Representatives from other governmental agencies, such as,
the Cook County Assessor's Office, Recorder of Deeds, and the
Board of Review have supported our forums in providing valuable
information on services available in assisting our residents in their
taxing needs.

In addition to the above mentioned, the Assessor's Office
provides a multitude of services relating to property taxes:
" Informs and assist taxpayers on Cook County Assessor's and Board of Review appeal filings
" Update and maintains sale data and building permits
" Maintains up-to-date address records and maps
" Delivers request for Certificates of Error, exemption renewal
applications and appeals to the Cook County Assessor's Office
" Assist in the ordering of tax redemptions from the County Clerk's Office
" Works with the Cook County Treasurer's Office on behalf of taxpayers in obtaining duplicate copies of tax bills and submitting
name change requests
" Assist with property characteristic updates
" Provides application and information regarding property division and consolidation
