Dolton Hosts Second Annual Christmas Party and Toy Giveaway
By:Katherine Newman
The Village of Dolton will hold their second annual Christmas Party, Show, and Toy Give away on Dec. 22 from 2p.m.-5p.m. The event will provide an afternoon of Christmas themed activities for families in Dolton and the surrounding neighborhoods.
“We realize there is a need and anytime there is a need, we try to fill it,” said A.M. Triche, a representative from the Mayor’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs.
“We did it last year and it was a wonderful event.”
To be eligible for the toy give away, you must come with proof of your residency in the Village of Dolton. It is recommended that
you pre-register to make sure that your child receives a toy at the party.
Non-registered children living the The Village of Dolton may still be able to receive a toy if they attend the event, but it is not guaranteed. Last year there were several last minute attendees who were unable to register and the Village of Dolton was able to provide toys for all of the children, according to Triche.
The toys are received through donations from residents, members of the Mayor’s Office and local businesses.
Also in attendance will be Buzz Lightyear, Elmo, Safety Pup, and other life size characters to entertain the children.
“That’s a high point of [the event] because all the characters come out and [everyone] starts screaming and taking pictures,” said Triche.
“We have Safety Pup, which we got a grant from the city for Safety Pup to come, and we also will probably have Santa there.” Last year, Triche had the honor of dressing up like Woody the Cowboy from the movie Toy Story.
“I didn’t want to do it originally but once I got into it, the children responded and they were so crazy, they got fired up,” said Triche.
The event is open to the public, but is targeting members of the Village of Dolton, according to Triche.
The event will be held at The Dorchester located at 1515 E. 154th St. Call 708-201-1690 to register your child to receive a gift
