DuSable Museum Board Of Trustees Elects Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun Chicago, IL. – Joyce Johnson Miller, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The DuSable Museum of African American History is pleased to announce the election of Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun to the Board of Trustees of the nation’s oldest independent African American History Museum. In 1992, Carol Moseley Braun was elected to the United States Senate becoming the first African American woman to earn that distinction. As a Senator; Moseley Braun tackled many issues including women’s rights and civil rights and served on several committees, including the powerful Senate Finance Committee. After leaving office Moseley Braun was appointed U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa by President Bill Clinton in 1999 and she left the post at the end of the Clinton Administration. A career long advocate for education, Ambassador Moseley Braun then taught at Morris Brown College. She joined the private sector in 2004, and since then has been working as a business consultant and started an organic foods company called Good Foods Organics. Ambassador Moseley Braun graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in political science and attended the university’s law school where she earned her law degree. Upon being informed of her election, Ambassador Braun stated, “It is my great honor to be elected as a Trustee of the DuSable Museum. This world class institution is a singular addition to Chicago’s cultural firmament, and it is with humility that I am delighted to serve it. Dr. Margaret Burroughs would be very proud and well pleased with the current leadership of the Museum she persevered to build, and I hope I can play some small role in supporting her vision. I want to thank Perri Irmer for the dynamic and focused work she has done to elevate the Museum and make it all it should and can be.
