13 YEAR OLD CHATHAM TWINS SCORE BIG ON CPS SELECTIVE ENROLLMENT TEST

CHICAGO --Alexis and Kayla Cain, 13- year old twin sisters

who are residents of Chatham Village scored 898 and 896 out of a possible 900 on the CPS Selective Enrollment test at Kenwood Academy. Straight A students and perennials on the

principal’s list, the 8th graders will attend Whitney Young High

School in the fall.

The girls are an example of what can be accomplished with a solid work ethic, something their father, Edward Cain, says they have always had. Since 3rd grade, the girls have participated in the Chicago Pre-College Science & Engineering

Program, a free Saturday STEM Class held at the University of Illinois. Both sisters have excelled in the program although

Alexis, in particular, loves math and science so much she does science projects for fun. “I love the empowerment the girls

get from participating in the program,” says their father. He believes it has contributed greatly to their overall success.

Alexis and Kayla are well-rounded overachievers. Prior to attending Kenwood, they were accomplished students at Dixon Elementary School in Chatham. Their extra-curricular activities have included a stint in the Chicago Children’s Choir, winning a spelling bee and an art contest that afforded them free classes at the Hyde Park Art Center. At Kenwood they are

members of the Latin Club and the Random Acts of Kindness club. On Sundays, the girls attend St. Mark Methodist Church where they not only sing in the choir but are in the Acolytes

program where they assist the clergy in the performance of rites.

Despite a heavy academic and extracurricular schedule the girls manage to find time to volunteer at Chatham Village

during Movie Day and other events.

And they’re looking forward with great anticipation to their 8th grade class trip and their graduation. To help the twins raise the funds for the trip, visit their GoFundMe page at https://www. gofundme.com/caintwinsclasstrip.
