ORGANIZATION’S PLAN TO BUILD YOUTH CENTER OFFERS HOPE TO MILLENNIALS

Urban L.O.V.E. Community Development Corp. is a non-prof it

organization that focuses on empowering underserved youth through love and the gift of giving.

Organizer Saundra Roberts said the organization’s primary goal is to build a youth center through partnerships with local business leaders and the communities’ Alderman, Michelle A. Harris of the 8th

ward.

“We are so geared on pouring into young people and helping the millennial group,” Roberts said. “We have so many students who are doing excellent and this type of news isn’t focused on in the media.”

She said the organization has students who are being accepted to colleges such as Arizona State and even some students who

have opportunities to travel to Spain and other countries.

“Our organization is trying to get our community to not only understand the negativity, but also the positivity in the community,” Roberts said. “We have to help our community by keeping it safe.”

In Collaboration with New Life Believer’s Church, located at 9321 S. Cottage Grove, the organization has hosted several events for 10 years, which has included “Project LOVE, Back to School JAM and Free Health Screenings,” according to an Urban L.O.V.E. Community Development press release.

Roberts said if the organization, community and church leaders continue to bring positive news and share more love towards the young people, then there will be fewer deaths in Chicago’s streets.

“We can’t be afraid no more,” Roberts said. “We have to go out there and help these kids.”

She said the organization is planning to include a gym and a bowling alley, which will ultimately be located on 93rd and Cottage Grove Streets. Roberts said this will be a major way to uplift the neighborhood and give the next generation hope to know that they can make it to greater heights.

“The older people have the wisdom and the knowledge to help the youth and love on them,” Roberts said. “What the millennial

children are doing today is preparing to rule the country and we must help them because they are our next generation.”
