Reverend Jesse Jackson Endorses Andrea Zopp for U.S. Senate
The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., one of the foremost civil rights, religious and political figures, endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Andrea Zopp Sunday at a press conference at Andrea Zopp for Senate campaign headquarters. Jackson believes Zopp, a candidate with over 30 years experience as a public servant, is the best candidate to build a multicultural coalition that will advocate for the rights of all people of Illinois in the U.S. Senate.
At the press conference, Reverend Jackson said, “I’ve known Andrea Zopp for 30 years. I support her unequivocally. She is a woman of personal integrity and impeccable credentials. She has worked on curbing easy access to guns, and supports a call for urban reconstruction. She knows first-hand we don’t just need better policing; we need better police accountability. She can bridge the gap between the rural and the urban poor. Andrea she has a body of credentials that best qualify her to be a U.S. Senator.”
“Thank you Reverend Jackson for your support, your wisdom, your counsel and for your endorsement of my campaign,” said Zopp. “I’m ready to bring my proven track record of leadership that spans three decades to Washington. And with the help of Reverend Jackson, everyone here, and others all over the state, I know I can get there.”
Reverend Jackson also called for more public debates in the Democratic primary. “We should open up more debates; there should be more than one. Electing a U.S. Senator should not be a closed-door process. It should be open to the voters.”
