Local Chicago Businessmen hosts tournament for inner city youth
QBG Foundation and it’s parent company The Chicago Citizen Newspaper Group have partnered with the ABT organization to announce their 1st Annual Chicago Inner City Team Chess Tournament to be held at the Headquarters of the QBG Foundation. This event will serve as an introductory to encourage the game of chess as a positive outlook for inner city youth. Research shows that the continued participation in the game of chess can improve learning, thinking, analytical power and decision making.
The team chess tournament will take place on Saturday, September 24 at the QBG foundation’s office located on 806 East 78th Street, in the Chatham community. Teams of 4 can register for a special rate of $125.00 before September 17 and onsite registration for teams will cost $150.00 at site. Each team will be allowed to have one (1) alternate player in case a regular member cannot play. Each team must have an average rating under 2200. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. and the first round begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Prizes and trophies will be given to the winners of the event.
QBG Foundation and ABT are supporting this annual event. These two organizations are working with youth on the West and South sides of the city to create a positive energy and serve as encouragement for both academic and professional advancement through the game of chess.
Youth from ABT will be on hand to participate with teams and learn the game of chess. John Porter, the organizer of the event wants to encourage players and non players to come out and support this Team Chess event. Please keep in mind, because the size of the venue, this event will be open to a limited amount of spectators.
