ValuSolutions, Inc., a human resources management and consulting and recruitment firm is sponsoring the 4th Annual South Suburban Cook County Job Fair today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lan-Oak Park District’s Eisenshower Center at 2550 E. 178th Street, Lansing, IL. An estimated 500 job seekers are expected to attend.
Employers scheduled to participate include Staff Source, Aflac, Dept. of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Rush Medical Center, J and D Trucking, SCR Medical Transportation, DeVry, Country Club Hills Police Department, Army National Guard, Country Club Hills School District 160, Recorder of Deeds, and more.
The last 3 years, ValuSolutions has sponsored the South Suburban Cook County Job Fairs in Lansing IL, and the Chicago Job Fair at the UIC Forum. According to Valusolutions, the job fairs which generated hundreds of job seekers, has went on to help over 200 people find stable employment.
Linda Pendleton, the director of communication and development for the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association says that anything that leads to job opportunities is good for the south suburbs.
“Anything that gets people working,” Pendleton says. “Access to jobs is very important to these communities. This keeps cars off of the roads along with less pollution.
Pendleton also says that people often have to travel outside of the south suburbs just to attend job fairs.
“Residents often have to travel to downtown and the north suburbs for work,” Pendleton says.” It’s more sustainable for employers to set up in these communities.”
Valda G. Washington, principal owner of ValuSolutions, Inc., says that the relationship she has with the employers participating in the job fair is based on trust.
“Now we have various employers who now support the event because of the amount of people who eventually find employment,” Washington says. “This has been very successful. They are ready to interview people and they are ready to hire.”
Washington went on to say that it was important to her to bring a job fair to the south suburbs.
“I’ve lived in south suburban Cook County for 15 years and I’ve never seen any job fairs out here. We want to support the entire area along with northwestern Indiana.”
