Chicago Children’s Choir Celebrates Holiday Season throughout City

Nothing puts us in the holiday spirit like good ‘ole holiday music. It’s just something about those classic favorites; White Christmas, Let it Snow, and of course Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. These songs cheer us up. They are comforting. They make us feel warm and fuzzy. And more than likely this holiday season, you’re going to hear them playing somewhere.

But if you want to make one hundred percent sure you hear at least one of these musical gems, check out Chicago Children’s Choir. There’s a very good chance that they are performing in your neighborhood this year.

That’s right! This holiday season, Chicago Children’s Choir’s Neighborhood Choir programs will be spreading cheer with five free concerts in November and December. Chicagoans in Albany Park, Beverly, Englewood and Lincoln Park will experience performances by their neighborhood’s choir members, offering diverse programming crossing culture and genre.

"There is nothing more magical and inspiring during the holidays than to hear the voices of young children singing together in harmony. A reflection of all that is good in the world, their songs bring feelings of hope, joy and peace to all. We invite the community to join with us in celebrating this special time of year through the power of music," said Judy Hanson, director of Choral Programs for Chicago Children’s Choir.

In addition to free Neighborhood Choir performances, Chicago Children’s Choir’s top ensemble, Voice of Chicago, is featured in a ticketed performance with the acclaimed string ensemble Sphinx Virtuosi, presented by the Harris Theater for Music and Dance on Monday, December 7, at 7:30pm. The two groups will deliver an uplifting holiday concert of music from across the years, including a brand-new work by renowned composer Daniel Roumain.

Chicago Children’s Choir’s programs serve more than 4,000 youth in Chicago annually, building community pride and stewardship in each singer. Performers in the In-School Programs, DiMension (an all-male ensemble), and the world-renowned Voice of Chicago are featured in nearly 100 events annually.
