Original Soul Vegetarian Offers Health Conscious Mother Day Brunch Alternative
If you are looking for somewhere untraditional to enjoy a Mother’s Day meal, then read on! Original Soul Vegetarian (OSV), 203 E. 75th St., will open its doors for its annual Mother’s Day vegan brunch buffet beginning at 10 a.m. starting at $25 per person on May 10.
Founded over 25 years ago, OSV creates fresh daily vegan-only meals as a means to promote its vision for healthy community dining.
Vegan meals exclude pork, beef , fish, fowl, dairy products (animal milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, etc.), eggs, honey, animal gelatin, and all other foods of animal origin according to the American Vegan Society (AVS).
“The brunch is an extended part of the restaurant because what we do for the brunch is expose new customers and our existing customers to things that we normally don’t have on our menu,” said R.L. Brown, OSV owner.
Dishes offered during the Mother's Day brunch include: vegan omelets, waffles, fruit crepes, battered cauliflower and broccoli, scrambled tofu, and vegan bacon, etc. according to Brown. Complimentary mimosas will be offered as well.
“One of the reasons why we always do Mother’s Day is because the mothers are the ones that made it all possible for us,” said Brown. “We wanted to give the public an opportunity to show how thankful they are to their mothers by creating what we call the Vegan Brunch at Original Soul Vegetarian.”
OSV will take early reservations for parties of four and larger and expect the majority of the group to be present within 15 minutes of seating. Brown expects a large turnout, however, he anticipates OSV’s three dining areas will accommodate all of his guests.
Brown encourages Chatham residents to support local eateries for Mother’s Day because of the positive financial impact it has on the community's economy.
“Very seldom do we treat ourselves to nice things in our neighborhood, we always have to go out of the neighborhood to experience things that are really nice and really comfortable and make us feel of value,” said Brown. “It’s really important that we understand that first we value ourselves. We have to do these things in the neighborhood because it helps build the neighborhood and it gives the neighborhood credibility to know that we have something in the neighborhood that we can be proud of, where’s there’s loving and passion behind it.”
