Early Voting for Chicago Mayoral Runoff Election Underway

Early voting for the April Mayoral Runoff Election got underway on Monday and will continue through April 4.

All 51 early voting sites are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Five sites will be open on Sunday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more early voting information, please visit the Chicago Board of Elections website at www.chicagoelections.com.

Chicagoans looking to vote early are required to bring a government-issued identification and can use any early voting site in the city, according to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

Those who need to register to vote for the first time or file an address or name change must show two forms of identification, including one item with a current address.

Chicago voters will have another opportunity or a first opportunity, to choose between Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and challenger, Cook County Commissioner, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia for mayor, and some residents will be voting in 18 aldermanic runoff races.

All Chicago election ballots will list the two candidates for the office of Mayor. In wards where there is also a runoff for the office of Alderman, there will be two candidates listed for that office. In wards where there is no runoff for Alderman, only the contest for Mayor will appear on the ballots. No other contests or referenda will be on the April 7 ballots.

If you already were registered but did not vote in the Feb. 24 election, you can vote in the runoff election on April 7. If you need to register or need to update your name, address or voter registration, you can do so during the early voting period through April 4.

Online and mail-in registrations were accepted through March 10.
