Nicholas Delgado, founder of Dignitas, a multi-family office, business advisory, and investment consulting firm, was the guest speaker at Chatham Business Association’s (CBA) Monthly Membership meeting on Tuesday where he talked about what chief executive officers and others in key business leadership roles should know.

Dignitas partners with clients to increase business enterprise value and family net worth and helps clients prioritize what matters most in their lives by providing them with objective advice and world-class execution.

Described as the go-to advisor for start-up and high growth entrepreneurs, seasoned executives and individuals entering their second life, Delgado works with entrepreneurs and business executives on business planning and growth issues as both a coach and meeting facilitator and is a regular speaker on topics such as business startups, financial strategy, capital advisory, succession planning and business acquisitions for closely held businesses.

A former executive and wealth manager at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, Delgado is a certified financial planner, chartered retirement planning counselor and was named one of the country’s top financial planners for 2007 and 2008 by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.

Delgado told the audience of business owners they should look at themselves as shareholders.

“As business owners, your role as investor is greater than your role as manager,” Delgado said. “As investors, we want to look at profitability, strong branding and a good management team. Leaders lead differently when they embrace their role as shareholder.”

Business expansion and how to retire as business owners, mergers and acquisitions and governance were also discussed.

Melinda Kelly, Executive Director, CBA, stated during the meeting that evaluating net worth and profit margins, is not an easy process but is something that has to be done.

“Running a business is such a holistic approach that you need the support of a business whose job is to help you,” she told the audience.

Chatham Business Association will hold its spring Mix & Mingle from 6 to 9 p.m., March 19 at PNC Bank, 1 N. Franklin, 27th Floor.
