The Cook County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Cook County Office of the President, is exploring the implementation of an advanced visitation technology which would provide friends and family members of Cook County Jail inmates with another option for communicating with their loved ones.

The proposed visitation technology will enable friends and family members to visit inmates remotely from convenient locations via computers, reducing or even eliminating the need to travel to the Cook County Jail. Standard onsite visitation would not be eliminated; the proposed visitation technology will be provided as an additional visitation option.

The goals of implementing the proposed visitation technology include:

· Enhanced overall customer service for friends and family members seeking to communicate with Cook County Jail inmates

· Increased communication between inmates and their friends and family members

· Decreased travel costs to the Cook County Jail

· More comfortable visitation options for children as well as elderly and disabled constituents

· Reducing current wait time for onsite visits by providing a convenient virtual visitation option

· Reduction in overtime for Cook County Jail correctional officers, potentially saving significant taxpayer dollars

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the President are asking friends and family members of current and former Cook County Jail inmates to participate in a quick toll-free telephone survey to assist in properly evaluating the public’s desire for the proposed visitation technology.

To participate in this toll-free telephone survey, please call: 855-849-6521 between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (CST), Monday – Friday.

The phone line will be accessible to the public.
