Chatham Homeownership and Rental Resource Fair

A free Chatham Homeownership and Rental Resource Fair for existing and prospective residents of Chatham will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, February 21 at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church, 754 E. 77th Street (at Cottage Grove).

Young people interested in homeownership and rental opportunities, and current local renters looking to become owners can speak with over 30 vendors about credit repair, community projects, cultural and recreational activities, financing and homeownership counseling, energy savings, and more. Eiran Feldman of First InSite Realty will be on hand to provide information about nearby studio, one and two–bedroom apartments available for rental and will be raffling off two digital tablets.

Frank Montro of Frank Montro Homes will be showing newly rehabbed homes for sale and raffling off a flat-screen TV.

The event is part of a City of Chicago initiative, the Micro Market Recovery Program (MMRP), which encourages neighborhood development and reinvestment in 13 designated Target Areas throughout the city.

The program brings together community partners, City of Chicago departments, and other resources to help residents stay in their homes and reoccupy vacant buildings, and to help new and current owners invest in the area.

The event is cosponsored by MMRP lead agencies, Community Investment Corporation and Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, and the City of Chicago. It was organized by Chatham MMRP Advisory Council, a group of local stakeholders, residents, Alderman Michelle Harris’ Office, residential developers, brokers, and non-profit organizations.

The group was formed to lead neighborhood stabilization efforts in the Chatham MMRP area,

tackling issues related to building code enforcement, public relations and image and human needs issues.

Food and beverages will be provided from local businesses and there will be a raffle for a free flat-screen TV as well as two digital tablets. For more information please contact Travis Kluska at (312) 870-9948 or travis.kluska@cicchicago.com .
