Man charged with punching Ald. David Moore
A 22-year-old man was charged with punching Ald. David Moore as the Chicago official tried to disband alleged prostitutes on a South Side street, officials said.
Cordale Profit, of the 6100 block of S. Rockwell St., was charged with aggravated battery of a government employee, aggravated battery in a public place and unlawful vehicular invasion, Chicago Police said.
The 17th Ward alderman was heading home early Sunday when he saw a group allegedly soliciting in the 7500 block of S. Peoria. Moore identified himself as alderman and asked the group to disperse about 3 a.m., according to a statement from Moore.
But the group refused to believe Moore and started yelling and striking at him. He said his arm was struck.
Moore added he called the police but the group ran.
Residents have complained about prostitution in that area for years, Moore said.
“In an effort to make the 17th Ward a desirable place to live for everyone, we have to address all unwanted criminal activity,” Moore said in a statement. “There are no victimless crimes,” he said.
