Triton College Community Orchestra to Hold High School Concerto Competition
High school students looking to show off their musical skills will be happy to learn that Triton College, next month, will hold auditions to participate in the first-ever, Triton College Community Orchestra Concerto Competition (TCCO).
“With this competition, the Music Program at Triton College strives to create a meaningful impact on the Triton community by inviting high achieving high school students from within Cook County to perform and connect to the vibrant musical community at Triton, said Dr. Joann Cho, Triton’s music faculty and organizer of the event. “We hope high school students will take advantage of this valuable learning opportunity that gives them the chance to perform with an experienced college orchestra and exposes them to what Triton has to offer. Our hope is to make this an annual occurrence for high school students in Cook County who have a passion for performing.”
Auditions are open to high school students currently attending school in Triton’s district and the greater Cook County area who want to play with a college orchestra.
High schools within the Triton district include: East Leyden, Elmwood Park, Oak Park-River Forest, Proviso East, Proviso Math and Science, Proviso West, Ridgewood, Riverside Brookfield, West Leyden; and the following private high schools: Fenwick, Guerin College Preparatory, St. Joseph, Trinity, and Walther Lutheran.
Eligible performers include singers, pianists, and other musicians who play a standard symphonic instrument.
Each entrant will be evaluated by a panel of experienced judges and will receive written comments and suggestions based on their individual performances.
The First place winner will receive a $300 cash award and will appear as a soloist with TCCO during its spring concert, 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015, on Triton’s campus, 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove. A second place winner will receive a $150 cash award, and the third place winner, a $50 cash prize.
Interested high school performers must submit an application postmarked by Nov. 24, 2014, or submit an online application, available at www.triton.edu/music, by Nov. 24, 2014. There is no application fee. Applications will be accepted in the order in which they are received; no more than 30 applicants will be accepted into the competition.
Each entrant will be notified in advance by email of his or her specific audition time. Auditions will be held in Room J-209 of the Fine Arts Building (J Building) on the campus.
