Midterm Election Results 2014
In one of the state’s most closely watched races, incumbent U.S. Senator Dick Durbin emerged victorious in Tuesday’s midterm election defeating Republican candidate, James “Jim” D. Oberweis. Durbin, who serves as the Assistant Majority Leader, the second highest ranking position in the U.S. Senate, was first elected to the Senate in November 5, 1996 and has since been re-elected for four consecutive terms. Durbin is the 47th U.S. Senator from the State of Illinois and is the senior senator from Illinois.
Perennial incumbent Illinois State Secretary Jesse White defeated Republican challenger, Michael Webster, in Tuesday night’s midterm election. White, Illinois’ 37th and longest serving Secretary of State, has been re-elected every election cycle since 1998.
Democrat, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was elected to her fourth term with 1,038,880 (64%) of the vote to her fourth term over Republican, Republican candidate Paul Schimpf who received 544,941(33%) of the vote.
Democrat, U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush, (Dist-1), was victorious with 82,293 votes (80%) over Republican challenger Jimmy Tillman’s 20,920 (20%). Tillman is the son of former, Chicago Third Ward Ald., Dorothy Tillman.
With 292 of the 536 Precincts reporting, Democrat, U.S. Congresswoman, Robin Kelly, (Dist.-2nd) maintains her seat with a defeat over Republican challenger, Eric Wallace by capturing 79,067, 84 percent of the vote.
Democrat, U.S. Congressman Danny K. Davis (Dist.-7th) retained his Congressional as he emerged victoriously over Republican challenger, Robert L. Bumpers. Davis has represented Illinois’ seventh district, which includes the west side of Chicago to as far northwest as Proviso Township, in the United States House of Representatives since November 5, 1995.
