Museum Campus South Collaboration Unites Cultural Attractions

The free shuttle will run every weekend in August, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon until 4:00 PM on Sundays.

Throughout the month of August, seven south-side Chicago cultural institutions who have joined forces and who have agreed to now to be collectively called, “Museum Campus South, ” will provide free weekend shuttle service for sightseers who visit the attractions.

The free shuttle will run every weekend in August, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon until 4:00 PM on Sundays. The shuttle will begin its route at The DuSable Museum and run in a “loop” stopping at each institution during the designated hours, allowing riders to hop on and off at their leisure. Riders should never have to wait more than 30 minutes for the next shuttle.

Thousands of people visit our individual institutions every month, and we want to help visitors make the connection between us. This shuttle will provide a fun, convenient and innovative new way for visitors to spend a day discovering the attractions located in and near the beautiful and historic Hyde Park neighborhood. - Carol L. Adams, Ph.D., President and CEO of the DuSable Museum

The shuttle is jointly organized by the participating institutions and sponsored by Choose Chicago, the official Chicago visitors' site guide.

“The Museum of Science and Industry is proud to be a member of the Museum South Campus,” said Director of Public Relations Lisa Miner. “The free shuttle program on weekends in August, made possible by a grant from Choose Chicago, will provide an excellent opportunity to conveniently experience a number of Chicago’s cultural gems and explore the beautiful, historic and diverse landscape and resources of Mid-South Chicago. We look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far at our institutions.”

The shuttle is a pilot project for Museum Campus South, a long-standing concept that found renewed energy through the City of Chicago’s most recent Cultural Plan. One of the plan's goals was to encourage and maintain vibrant cultural districts citywide, including the development of a Museum Campus South.

By connecting institutions in the Hyde Park, Washington Park and Woodlawn neighborhoods, the Museum Campus South supports two other goals of the Chicago Cultural Plan – broadening Chicagoan’s participation in culture and linking neighborhoods to each other and downtown. Visitors and tourists will also be able to take GO Airport Express from their downtown hotels to Museum Campus South (details are available at www.AirportExpress.com)
