Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, on Saturday, attended the funeral of Demario Bailey, the twin teenager who was killed under a viaduct in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood last week, while coming to the aid of his twin brother who was being robbed of his coat.

Ironically, now comes news that the Mayor's own teenaged son, was the victim of a robbery last Friday, which left him bruised and battered.

Chicago Police News Affairs Officer, Janel Sedevic, would not confirm whether it was Mayor Emanuel’s son Zach Emanuel, 17, who was robbed and would only say, “A juvenile male was walking on the 4200 block of North Hermitage at about 10:05 p.m. Dec. 19 when he was approached by two unknown male offenders who grabbed him from behind and went into his pockets, took his cell phone and fled the scene.”

Sedevic added that the victim sustained minor injuries.

The Chicago Sun-Times, and other news outlets, are reporting that someone from the Mayor’s office confirmed Saturday that it was indeed the Mayor's son that was robbed and attacked as he went for a walk around 10 p.m.

“Yesterday evening, Mayor Emanuel’s son Zach was assaulted in a robbery during which his phone was stolen,” Kelley Quinn from the Mayor’s office was quoted saying.  “He sustained injuries that required medical treatment but was able to join the family for a long planned trip. The mayor’s focus is on his son’s well-being.”

The Mayor's son allegedly was forced to enter his security code to unlock the cell phone before the attackers ran off. According to news reports, there was no weapon involved.

Zach Emanuel reportedly suffered a chipped tooth and other facial abrasions and was treated for his injuries by a doctor at the Emanuel home. The injuries reportedly were not serious enough to prevent the Mayor and his family from leaving town for a planned holiday trip to Chile.

According to the Chicago Police crime stats, 229 robberies were reported in the last 7 days with 9,279 reported as of Dec. 14.
