Funding for Graymoor Subdivision Sewer Work Project
Funding put together by various sources will allow sewer repair other work in the Graymoor Subdivision in Olympia Fields.
Earlier this month, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s (MWRD) Finance Chairman, Mariyana Spyropoulos, joined Olympia Fields Mayor, Debbie Meyers-Martin, U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly, (Dist.-2nd), Ill. Sen. Toi Hutchinson and other leaders for a groundbreaking ceremony for the Graymoor Subdivision sanitary sewer project.
“District staff worked quickly to issue the permit so work could begin in a timely manner,” said Commissioner Spyropoulos. “We are thrilled the city and Army Corps are working together on this project. The District would like for this partnership to serve as a model for all separate sewer communities to reduce sanitary sewer overflow and basement backups during major rain storms.”
Congresswoman Kelly was instrumental in securing a $500,000 grant for the sewer rehabilitation work.
“I was delighted to assist Olympia Fields in securing the grant,” Rep. Kelly said. “Aging infrastructure directly affects the quality of life for residents, so I consider it an important part of my job to help acquire the necessary funds that will keep our communities operating safely and productively.”
The project includes relining approximately seventy (70) existing 6" sanitary sewer service lines within the public right of way in the Graymoor Subdivision in Olympia Fields. The work also includes installation of approximately fifty-five (55) clean-outs at the right-of-way line. The sanitary sewer service lines will be relined with a cured-in-place-pipeliner (CIPP), with liners launched through the sanitary sewer at the connection within the main line sewer, to reduce inflow and infiltration into the sanitary sewer.
A grant from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also contributes to completion of sewer project that aims to alleviate an overflow of rainwater that’s straining the system.
This project is authorized under Section 219 of the U.S. Water Resources Development Act which allows the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to assist local governments in planning, designing, and constructing water-related projects. USACE is contributing 75 percent and the village is contributing 25 percent of the $563,000 construction cost. The total amount for the job is approximately $1.5 million. Performance Pipelining, Inc., 1551 West Norris Drive Ottawa, Ill., was awarded the contract in Sept.
Repairs on the remaining lines on private property will be paid for with Village Corporate funds.
