Thornton Township and South Suburban College Partner for Job Fair

South Suburban College (SSC) is hosting its Adult Brown Bag Seminar that will equip job seekers with techniques and information proven helpful in landing successful job interviews. The seminars will also prepare local residents for SSC’s/Thornton Township’s upcoming annual job fair.
South Suburban College (SSC) is hosting its Adult Brown Bag Seminar that will equip job seekers with techniques and information proven helpful in landing successful job interviews. The seminars will also prepare local residents for SSC’s/Thornton Township’s upcoming annual job fair.

To better prepare local residents for its upcoming annual free on-campus job fair (to be held May 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), South Suburban College (SSC), 15800 State St, South Holland, will host a workshop entitled Adult Brown Bag Seminar that will equip job seekers with techniques and information proven helpful in landing successful job interviews.

“We do Brown Bag Seminars on a regular basis and these seminars just happen to be in order to prepare prospective students and job seekers for the job fair,” said Patrick Rush, Director of Publications, Public Relations & Foundation for South Suburban College. “The Brown Bag Seminars are produced by our Career and Jobs Center and our admissions office.”

Belma Wierzbicki, a representative from SSC’s Job Training Department, will direct the seminar on Wednesday, April 23, at South Suburban College. The session will focus on how to network with potential employers, personal conduct during job fairs, and job interviewing.

“Our presenters are all experienced staff that we’ve had here at South Suburban College and they’re very well versed on the topics that they’re presenting about,” said Rush.

Thorntown Township and SSC partner to produce the annual job fair and have been doing so for over 5 years.

Rush described the partnership as “great” and acknowledged that it allows both institutions to reach a larger population of the public than either could separately.

“We’ve put on the joint job fair for years,” said Rush. “Both of our institution’s constituents are similar and we service the same service area and so we partner on the job fair to both bring in the best and most possible employers in the region and also to help publicize the events to as many possible residents in the area that can benefit from the job fair.”

According to Jill Manning, Director of Special Projects with Thornton Township, and based off of last year's employer attendees, expected job fair employer participants include the Illinois Tollway, Homewood Police Department, Alpha School Bus Company, Countryside Nursing, Vector Engineering, and Citizens Financial Bank.
