Howard University Students Boycott Gospel Artist for “Confusing” Gay Behavior
The gospel artist Tonex is being boycotted by a group of students at Howard University in Washington, DC who feel that he is sending the wrong messages to the public.
Tonex, according to students has in the past stated that he is gay, but then later stated that he is not gay. The artist’s concert appearance on Sept. 15 on Howard’s campus reportedly made many students angry. An entire Facebook page called, “Don’t support Tonex concert” and a Twitter handle, @BoycottTonex were created to stop his concert from being a success.
Angela Powell told AmericaPreacher.com, “He’s confused. One second he says he’s not gay then does a tour and says he is. He said he quit gospel but then comes out and says he’s not finished with Christian music yet. He needs to sit down somewhere.”
Curtis Montgomery, a Howard University student, said to AmericaPreachers.com, ”As a Christian, homosexuality is wrong. I don’t support it and I’m glad so many students are standing up and rejecting this concert also.”
This is not the first time that a gospel artist has been roadblocked in the politically-charged city of DC. Just a few months ago, Donnie McClurkin was sent packing by DC Mayor Vincent Gray, who was responding to pressure presented by gay rights groups.
