The City of Chicago Offers Free Business Workshops
The City of Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection (BACP) offers free business workshops every Wednesday and Friday at City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St., Rm. 805. The workshops are beneficial to both small and large business owners and are also designed to encourage entrepreneurship amongst residents.

Following are workshops offered during the month of December 2013.
12/4 Talk to City Inspectors, Ask Questions, Get Answers

Presented by the City of Chicago
To operate a successful business in Chicago you must know the requirements. At this workshop you can talk to four inspectors from City departments who will point out the do’s and don’ts of operating your business, and provide insight on how to operate safely, stay compliant, and prepare for inspections. Don’t miss this workshop!
12/6 What You Need to Know Before You Press GO! How to Open a Day Care
9:30 to 11 a.m.
Presented by the Women’s Business Development Center
Step by step guide on launching a child care business. Avoid common mistakes by attending this session where you will learn about the importance of developing a business plan, determining your start-up budget and financing options.
12/11 501c3 Tax Exemption- Creating a Charity
3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Presented by The Law Project of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights
The good, the bad and the ugly realities of starting and operating a charity. Attend this workshop to learn about creating and running a charity and determine if it is the right choice for you. The Law Project of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights works with hundreds of nonprofits annually and will present at this workshop. Learn what you need to do and get your questions answered.

Presented by the City of Chicago Department of Procurement Services (DPS)
This workshop is designed to teach business owners how to respond to a City of Chicago RFP. Learn what evaluators look for in a RFP and how to avoid common mistakes. Learn helpful tips on how to navigate RFP specifications.
12/20 Trademark & Copyright Law Basics
9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
