Technology Fellowship Program Aims to Recruit the Innovators of Tomorrow to Chicago

As part of Mayor Rahm Emmanuel new Mayor's Office Summer Technology Fellowship Program, four college students will be recruited to work alongside some of the greatest technological minds in the country to improve the quality of life for Chicagoans over the span of three months. The students will have hands-on opportunities with various projects that will further develop Chicago's growing technology presence as well as working with the innovators who are at the cutting edge of Chicago's technology renaissance.

The positions are paid and current graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply at www.cityofchicago.org/careers. The program is scheduled to begin June 17, 2013 and end August 30, 2013. Applications are due by March 31, 2013.

The Mayor's Office Fellowship Program is providing vibrant, go-getters with an opportunity to be active within city government on a daily basis. In addition to working with the Mayor's Office staff, fellows will participate and contribute to the city's legislative, budgetary, and programming committees while also learning about policy-making and public service as it pertains to the City of Chicago.

"My administration is committed to leveraging the latest technologies to better serve all Chicagoans and this fellowship program brings new energy, ideas and enthusiasm to City Hall while providing an unparalleled opportunity for students to learn from leaders in the technology," said Mayor Emanuel in a press release. "Chicago is a digital destination - our startup and technology sectors are flourishing and today's innovators and tomorrow's leaders should look to our city as a place to launch their careers and ideas."

The duties of recruits will include:

*Discovering methods of making information easier to access for less technologically-inclined Chicagoans on the City's portals and databases.

*Implementing creative tactics that can be utilized to reach Chicagoans using digital tools.

*Assisting with all current projects and work alongside and be willing to join teams upon request.

*Discovering methods of improving information found on the City's data portal.
