Humboldt Park Hospital Host Back to School Fest
School starts back for Chicago Public School students on Aug. 13(year round schools) and Sep. 5 (regular year schools) and one hospital located in Humboldt Park is helping students prepare for a new year of learning.
On Saturday, July 28, Norwegian American Hospital in conjunction with New Life Covenant Church will host its annual back-to-school festival HopeFest Chicago: 2012. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the Norwegian American Hospital campus, 1044 North Francisco Avenue, Chicago.
Free book bags, school supplies, groceries, immunizations, eye exams, dental cleanings, haircuts and more will be available. On-site physicals will be provided at no charge with Norwegian American Hospitals Pediatric Care-A-Van administering free health screenings to all children. School representatives will also be on-hand to provide information on the upcoming academic year. Carnival games, live entertainment, short skits, music, face painting and many other activities will be offered, too, at HopeFest Chicago: 2012 for added family fun.
Norwegian American Hospital is thrilled to be hosting the Seventh Annual HopeFest Chicago: 2012 in conjunction with New Life Covenant Church on its campus, said President and CEO Jos R. Snchez. This back-to-school event is a great way to engage the communities we serve by providing children and their families with the necessary items, including the required health screenings, to be fully prepared for the first day of school.
Last year, close to 8,000 children and their families attended HopeFest. It is the ultimate goal of HopeFest to ensure that all event attendees have everything they need to prepare for the upcoming school year.
HopeFest is collaboration between Norwegian American Hospital, New Life Covenant Church, the Wood Family Foundation and PepsiCo.
CPS CEO Jean Claude Brizard recently launched a program to emphasize the importance of the first day of school to students and parents. The campaign will include a media blitz and community outreach effort to make sure students are in school on the upcoming school year.
The initiative titled, First Day, A New Year, was announced at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse last Wednesday.
There is nowhere else our students should be than in the classroom on the first day of school and every day throughout the school year, said CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard. And this year, Im particularly excited for the school year to begin, because it also marks the launch of the new, full daya day that will help lead our students toward academic success.
