Occupation: State Farm AgentWhy does she stand out?

Dawn Hines is a newly minted member of the QBG Mentoring Committee. The committee is an extension of the QBG Foundation which is the non-profit arm of the Citizen Newspaper Group and was founded by the papers CEO, William Garth, Sr.. The committees main objective is to broaden the horizons of local youth through mentoring activities such as group sessions and life coaching.

Hines earned a bachelor and master degree from Howard University in criminal justice and put them both to good use. For ten years, working as the Asst. Warden of Programs at Joliet Correctional Center and as the Warden of Illinois Youth center-Chicago, a state juvenile prison housing juvenile delinquents from the ages of 13-19.

I was not only able to speak with troubled teens first hand, but was also in a position to bring in programs and speakers that I thought would be to their benefit, she said.

Hines, who opened the Dawn Hines State Farm Agency nearly six years ago after retiring early from the state, says that she is thrilled to be a QBG mentor.

I am excited to be a part of the QBG mentoring committee, as I believe I can use my experience coupled with my love and concern for young people to make a difference. I am filled with vigor and excitement about what is to come of our committee, she said.
