First staged in 1901, the Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America. It utilizes more than 1 million square feet of the McCormick Place complex. Exhibitions will include: multiple world and North American introductions; a complete range of domestic and imported passenger cars and trucks; sport utility vehicles; and experimental and concept cars. In addition to the vehicles on display, show patrons will also find: numerous aftermarket, accessories and auto-related exhibits; competition vehicles; and antique collector cars.

The Marginalization of African Americans in Health Care, Housing, and Employment

The African American Alumni Committee of the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration Alumni Association will bring together leading practitioners, scholars and community providers to examine the relationship between socio-economics, race and classism and how they contribute to the ongoing social exclusion of African Americans and impact their ability to secure appropriate and affordable housing, to leverage resources for urban planning, to gain access to vital physical and mental healthcare services and to maintain suitable, stable employment.

Community Cinema - More Than a Month

Shukree Hassan Tilghman, a 29-year-old African American filmmaker, is on a cross-country campaign to end Black History Month. Through this thoughtful, humorous journey, More Than a Month investigates what the treatment of history tells us about race and equality in a "post-racial" America.

Lift Every Voice at GSU Center Celebrates African American Vocal Tradition

Internationally acclaimed opera stars Kimberly Jones and Cornelius Johnson unleash their soaring interpretations of great American music in Lift Every Voice An Operatic Celebration of Black History Month, at the Governors State University Center for Performing Arts, February 19. Both Jones and Johnson appeared in Houston Grand Operas international production of Porgy and Bess, which graced the stages of the Opera Bastille in Paris, La Scala in Milan, and the Bunkamura Theater, with the Tokyo Philharmonic.

Financial Aid Workshops at Prairie State College

Submitting a completed and accurate Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first and most important step in obtaining financial aid. By completing the FAFSA in the spring, students will be able to meet the required financial aid deadlines. Prairie State College is hosting a workshop on Feb. 18 to help students and parents file the FAFSA online.

In order to complete the FAFSA, applicants will need to provide a completed or estimated 2011 tax information (parents and students 1040, 1040A, and/or 1040EZ federal tax applications and W-2 forms); the students drivers license and social security number; the parents social security number and date of birth; records of untaxed income (welfare, social security, AFDC/ADC, or veterans benefits); current bank statements; current mortgage information for properties other than the familys principal residence; records of businesses, farm (if not the familys principal residence), and assets (stocks, bonds, and other investments); and a calculator.
