CHICAGORecently, one of the banking industrys most underserved communities celebrated the arrival of low-cost, responsible financial services at the grand opening of the new Urban Partnership Bank full-service branch in Bronzeville at 35th Street and South Michigan Ave.

Urban Partnership Bank began building a new state-of-the-art branch system designed to bring affordable and responsible banking services to all of its customers, including some of the citys most neglected and underserved urban communities. This follows its acquisition of the deposits and most of the assets of ShoreBank from the FDIC in August 2010. The new 1,100 square foot, full-service branch and drive-up, formerly home to a fast food restaurant, replaces the old location at 3401 South King Dr.

The Bronzeville location is the fourth new Urban Partnership Bank branch since the opening of its Loop location at 55 East Jackson last October. In addition to these two new locations, additional full-service Urban Partnership Bank branch locations have also been opened recently in Austin, at 5253 West Madison, and in Bellwood, at 4310 St. Charles Rd.

Our new branches reflect our mission to make a difference in the lives of our customers and communities, said William Farrow, Urban Partnership Bank, President and CEO. One of the ways we do that is by offering a responsible alternative to high-cost banking. He added, Were providing the financial services our customers and communities need to create jobs, grow small businesses, support nonprofits, and acquire and purchase affordable real estate all of the things that will build a better future and sustainable success for everyone.

The new branch offers a full range of retail transactional services and is equipped with the latest technologies. Located in a revitalized neighborhood, it will also reach an underserved population that includes the growing number of students and young adults who are entering the workforce, customers of high-cost payday lenders and currency exchanges, and others currently without a banking relationship.

The branch is conveniently located across the street from the new Chicago Police Department headquarters and near new stores and homes at 35th and State. Close by are IIT, U.S. Cellular Field, De LaSalle High School, and the new Metra stop at 35th and Dearborn. The new location is designed to provide a comfortable and casual environment for its customers.
