Prairie State College Names New VP of Student Affairs
Prairie State College (PSC) recently named Gregory A. Thomas vice president of student affairs and dean of students.
In that role, he is the chief student services and student life officer of the college. As a member of the President's Cabinet, Thomas will provide executive leadership, strategic planning, administrative direction, operational, fiscal, and human resource management, as well as evaluation in the areas of enrollment services, financial aid, counseling and advising, student recruitment, student life and student recognition, veterans' affairs, child care services, diversity programs, and physical education and athletics.
Dr. Eric Radtke, president of PSC says Thomas clearly demonstrated the qualifications necessary to successfully fill the role.
"Mr. Thomas comes to us with a full set of experience and credentials, as well as a community college background," he said. "He impressed us with his energy, ideas, and enthusiasm and his ability to identify with our students," Radtke added.
Before coming to PSC, Thomas served as vice president of student affairs for Weatherford College in Weatherford, Tex.; dean of student services for Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla.; executive director of enrollment management and deputy vice-president of student affairs and interim director of admissions and recruitment for The City University of New York, Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY; and assistant dean for Trinity University School of Professional Studies in Washington, D.C.
He is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the American Association of Community Colleges, the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and the Association of College and University Housing Officers.
Thomas has a bachelor's degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a master's degree in teaching from Trinity University in Washington, D.C. He completed the Higher Education Administration Program with a concentration in community college leadership at New York University in New York, NY, and is a doctoral candidate in the Higher Education Administration Program with a concentration in community college leadership at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
