Hyde Park Art Center's Annual Spring Gala is an opportunity for the Art Center to celebrate its mission to stimulate and sustain the visual arts in Chicago while recognizing exemplary people who have made significant contributions to Chicagos cultural community. Honoring Dawoud Bey & Anita Blanchard and Martin H. Nesbitt. Dinner with menu designed by Chef Michael Kornick.

Dinner and a Show - red, black and GREEN: a blues

Join us for Dinner and a Show, a tapas dinner reception provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering prior to the opening night of red, black, and GREEN: a blues. This is a wonderful opportunity to dine, celebrate and meet the artists and MCA colleagues. Before the performance, Peter Taub, Director of Performance Programs will offer some insights about the performance.

Oakland-based spoken word and dance artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph, and Chicago visual artist and activist Theaster Gates collaborate to create a multimedia performance and visual installation addressing environmental issues from the perspective of communities of color.

Rajiv Halim TrioRajiv Halim is a young, up and coming saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and educator. Rajiv performs regularly around the Chicagoland area with many musical groups such as The Rajiv Halim Sextet; this group features trumpeter, Marquis Hill, tenor saxophonist, Zachary Lipton, pianist Michael King, bassist, Andrew Vogt, and drummer, Michael Piolet.

Rajiv performs around the United States and Canada with the eclectic band Kids These Days, headlining many venues and festivals, as well as, opening up for or sharing the stage with acts from Raphael Saadiq to Snoop Dogg.

Cuban Film Festival: Races de mi Corazon (Roots of My Heart)

"Races de mi corazon" ("Roots of my heart"), an independently produced short feature film, deals for the first time in Cuban media with the 1912 massacre of thousands of members of the Independents of Color, the hemisphere's first Black political party outside Haiti.
