CSU Honors McDonalds Exec

On the evening of Sep. 15, The Chicago State University Foundation will pay homage to Don Thompson, McDonalds Corporation president and chief operating officer. Thompson will be recognized during the foundations 17th Annual Awards Gala at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The gala serves as a scholarship fundraiser for CSU students.

Thompson has worked diligently as an education advocate and CSU chose to honor him because of his long time support of education and mentorship.

As President and Chief Operating Officer, Don Thompson leads global strategy and operations for all 32,000 McDonalds restaurants in 117 countries.

As a business leader, Thompson serves on the board of directors for the McDonalds Corporation, the Exelon Corporation -- one of the nations largest electric utility companies and at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He also serves on the board of trustees for Purdue University and is a member of the Executive Leadership Council.

Thompson is constantly recognized by many organizations for his leadership in business, the community and as a role model. For example, Black Enterprise named him Corporate Executive of the Year in 2007. In 2008, he received the Corporate Executive Award from the Trumpet Foundation.

Thompson received a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue. In 2008, he also received an honorary doctorate degree from Excelsior College in Albany, New York.

According to Thompson, supporting education is also a part of the corporations philosophy.

Moreover, the gala focuses on the achievements of CSU students. Terisa Griffin, a noted Chicago vocalist will provide entertainment for the evening.
