Community Justice Centers Opens near UIC

Last month, Cook County States Attorney Anita Alvarez opened the countys fourth Community Justice.

The first center opened on Chicagos North side in May 2009.

The center is located near the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) at 715 W. Maxwell Street and will serve the UIC Campus and the 11th and 12th Chicago Police Districts.

Cook County residents now have four satellite locations they where they can access assistance from our office, Alvarez said. We are pleased to give residents tangible places in the community where they can interact with our attorneys and staff to problem solve and work together to prevent crime in our neighborhoods before it occurs.

The prosecution and deterrence of local crime is the main focus of assistant states attorneys and community outreach coordinators assigned to the Community Justice Center. The states attorney officials work with police districts, community groups, schools, businesses and area residents to ensure safety and justice.

In addition, crime victims can utilize the resources of the center to access ongoing court information and to obtain the additional services of the states attorneys Victim Witness Unit. The states attorneys office will also coordinate informational seminars and host crime prevention meetings at the location.

Moreover, a prosecutor from the offices Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecutions Unit will work at the center to assist local residents affected by mortgage fraud the prosecutor will conduct pro-active mortgage fraud investigations and coordinate takedowns of corrupt appraisers and brokers.

The four Community Justice Centers are located on the north, south and west sides of Chicago. There is also a center in west suburban Oak Park. For more information on the services available at the centers, please contact the appropriate location:
