Prairie State College is looking for people to donate vehicles to its auto technology program.

Is there an extra vehicle in your garage or driveway collecting dust or taking up space? Prairie State College (PSC) in Chicago Heights wants that car.

PSC recently announced that it is accepting used car donations for its automotive technology program.

According to the college, one vehicle can be used to educate hundreds of students in more than 10 degree and certificate programs.

Students are allowed to dissect and scrutinize the cars in the schools lab which allows for a more dynamic and multi-dimensional learning environment. The vehicles are used for up to five years and normally serve around 80 students a year in the program.

PSC cites that vehicles of any make or model are accepted and must be a 1998 or newer; however, the vehicle must be running.

Those planning to donate automobiles are asked to call ahead before dropping off. The college also has a pick-up option if individuals are not able to drop off vehicles.

Donations are accepted year round and donors are eligible for special tax deductions, according to a PSC media release.

For more information about vehicle donations, contact Tony Gumushian, associate professor and coordinator of PSCs automotive technology program, at (708) 709-3614 or tgumushian@prairiestate.edu.

Inquiries about tax deduction forms should be directed to Cathy Kloss at (708) 709-3944 or ckloss@prairiestate.edu.
