Barbara Woods
Occupation: Executive Director of Abraham Lincoln Head Start Center
Why does she stand out?
For several years, Barbara Woods has worked tirelessly trying to brighten the future of countless Chicagoland youth.
I have forgotten the dates and some of the things Ive done, explained Woods when trying to recollect the variety of organizations she has volunteered for.
For example, Woods volunteers much of her time to the Girl Scouts of Calumet Park, IL and for years was a co-leader and mentor to young women through the Kingdom Valley Ministries Daughter of Promises program. Wood also finds time to volunteer as an asthma advocate/liaison at Mt. Sinai Hospital to children and parents in the Roseland area who require asthma related services.
Because Woods believes it is important that her communitys image remains positive, she has dedicated much of her time working alongside 9th Ward Alderman, Anthony Beale, on safety initiatives within the Roseland community as well as on beautification projects concentrated along 119th St.
She has been an inspiration to me and because of her I opened up my very own home daycare in the Roseland area, said Nadge Carrie, a friend of Woods.
In addition to being a longtime volunteer, for over 15 years Woods has worked at the Abraham Lincoln Head Start Center. She has received numerous awards for the top notch performance and support she provides to the parents and children there.
