Chicago United, a business advocacy organization recently recognized Michelle Gaskill, BSN MHSA, vice president of nursing and clinical operations at Advocate Trinity Hospital as one of its 2011 Business Leader of Color honorees.

Gaskill is one of 44 corporate trailblazers to be featured in the Chicago United Business Leaders of Color (BLC) publication.

In 2008, Gaskill came to Trinity from a health care consulting firm in Oregon.She was also a nursing director at Michael Reese Hospital, senior consultant for Healthcare Provider Planning Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and nurse manager for Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Gaskill has made significant upgrades to Trinitys nursing division. She has also worked to decrease the use of nurse agencies, reduce turnover rates and has also implemented a Shared Governance Council.

I am truly honored to be part of this publication, Gaskill stated in the release. It is my professional mission to accelerate change within my organization, ultimately creating the best environment for patients to heal, physicians to practice and associates to work. I believe that starts with building strong relationships between your colleagues and focusing on staff development, specifically identifying opportunities for education and growth. These are my top priorities.

Chicago United has highlighted local business leaders biennially since 2003. Past civic and business leaders featured in the BLC include First Lady Michelle Obama, Valerie B. Jarrett, senior advisor to President Barack Obama and Don Thompson, president and chief operating officer of McDonalds Corporation.

Individuals honored by Chicago United are dedicated forerunners who work diligently and encompass sincerity for the communities they inhabit and work in.
