GCA Holds Monthly Meeting

Alderman Roderick T. Sawyer has been making his rounds around the 6th Ward. On May 21, the alderman and his staff met with members of the Greater Chatham Alliance Community Council (GCA). GCA reported that 308 people attended the event.
Roosevelt K. Vonil, president of the GCA said the alderman was asked to bring his staff members to GCAs monthly meeting. Ald. Sawyer and his chief of staff, Brian Sleet were both members of the community council before Sawyer was elected.
Vonil said Ald. Sawyer addressed many constituents concerns such as garbage collection, economic development and crime. The alderman also left the floor open for discussion. Overall, Vonil said the meeting was productive and the alderman handled the crowd with ease.
Vonil said residents need to understand that problems cannot be resolved overnight, however, the alderman was very responsive during the meeting and listened to residents.
Other members of the aldermans staff includes: Jasmine McCalpin, Director of Constituent Services. Candice Briggs, aldermanic aide/scheduler and Denise Fuller and Cregg Davis.

GCA meetings are held the third Saturday of the month at St. James Lutheran Church, 8000 S. Michigan Ave.
Vonil said a board meeting will be held this week to decide the agenda for Junes meeting.
The GCA president also said he fosters cooperation with other community councils in the Ward. He said all the councils share the same objectives such as education, foreclosure, crime and unemployment to name a few.
