Quinn To Visit Chicago Film Studio
CHICAGO (AP) - Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and actor Kelsey Grammer celebrated the opening of a new film studio on Chicago's West Side whose owners hope will attract major film and television productions.
Cinespace Chicago Film Studios was built with $5 million provided through Illinois Jobs Now, and an $80 million investment by Toronto-based studio owner Nick Mirkopoulos.
With Cinespace Chicago, Quinn said the city has become the complete package truly a world class film destination.
The 450,000-square-feet studio is located in a building once owned by Ryerson Steel. It currently is the production site for a cable drama called Boss that stars Grammer as the mayor of Chicago.
Mirkopoulos says he hopes to acquire the entire 48-acre Ryerson site and expand production space to 1.2 million square feet.
