Julian DeShazier

Why does he stand out?
DeShazier serves as senior minister and volunteer coordinator of University Church (UC) in Hyde Park.He motivates fellow volunteers by empower[ing] those who have to empower the have-nots.
He has helped volunteers provide sanctuary for Guatemalan families who are in exile because of war. Before coming to UC, DeShazier mentored and provided job training to Chicago area youth.
Thrilled about his volunteer efforts at University Church, DeShazier said, I'm excited to bring a youth focus to this organization, and honored to be a part of a legacy of community service that stretches to before I was born! , he said.
The Morehouse College alum says he works daily as a volunteer coordinator.I am in the office every day, nurturing our partnerships and looking for opportunities where volunteers are needed, he said.
DeShazier has witnessed the effects of his community work on others.The best I've ever felt after doing community work is when one teenager wrote me a note that said, Thank you. I felt like you were THERE for me.
