Chicago Priest Wants To Stay At Longtime Church
CHICAGO (AP) - One of Chicago's best known Roman Catholic priests says he wants to remain pastor of a church on the city's Southwest Side and not be head of a school.
The Rev. Michael Pfleger told his congregation Sunday that his desire is so stay at St. Sabina Church.
He's said he responded by letter to a request made by Cardinal Francis George.
Pfleger told the congregation that heading a school isn't his background. His comments follow reports that he's been asked to lead nearby Leo High School.
The congregation gave Pfleger a standing ovation. He's been pastor at St. Sabina since 1981. .
The priest has long been outspoken on social issues. In addition to being active against gun violence, he has taken stands against liquor and tobacco sales
