Church Hosts Womens Conference
Morgan Park Pentecostal Church is preparing for its 2011 Midwest Womens Conference. The symposium will be held March 24-27th at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield in Schaumburg, IL. The event is expected to draw nearly 1,000 people from across the tri-state area including Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. The conference is geared towards young women but has workshops for women of all ages.
Dr. Gale Frazier, Conference Committee Chairperson says one of the conferences selling points is repairing relationships with female family members. We have such a great breakdown in the family structure, said Frazier. She said, for women, fixing relationships with other female family members is important. Despite everything we go through in life we are there for each other, Frazier said when discussing the dynamics of familial relationships between women.
With the expectation of nearly 1,000 guests who plan to attend the three day conference, Frazier said the church has promoted the event through several avenues. [We] are touching people in Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan by travelling to other churches and [sending] e-blasts as well as attending local community group meetings, she said.
The chairperson also cites that conferences such as these are important for the Black community because we have lost our sense of family. Frazier emphasized that a lot of African-Americans tend to have an individualistic attitude which means they are concerned with their personal well-being rather than the welfare of the community.
According to Frazier, the conference will help women in community in several ways. She said there are workshops that feature topics on financial and emotional stability. The sessions were developed so that attendees can distribute the information they learn to the community.
Men are also welcomed to the conference. The event will include a mens panel where women will be able to ask men frank questions about relationships and other issues.
The three-day event also has a very special guest. Renowned gospel singer, Vickie Winans will be the featured vocalist during the conference banquet on March 26. Frazier said when Winans was asked to sing at the event, she agreed without hesitation. Winans was inspired by the programs mission and said it was her responsibility to give back.
People interested in attending the conference should contact the church directly at 773-238-8983 from 11am-3pm Monday-Friday or register online at www.morganparkchurch.org.
