Madigan calls for audit of Ill. workers' comp
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - A top Illinois lawmaker is calling for an audit of the state's questioned workers' compensation program as it applies to state employees.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has introduced a bi-partisan resolution calling for the review.
The audit would include claims by state workers during the past four years, a review of the settlement contract process, and an analysis of any fraud identification and control policies and procedures.
The move comes after the newspaper found that the state paid nearly $10 million in workers' compensation awards to 389 employees at a southwestern Illinois prison. Eight of the state's 32 arbitrators also have filed for or received workers' comp awards.
