Yolanda Jackson
Occupation: Relentless Community Volunteer
Why does she stand out?
Jackson has volunteered for several years in some capacity . Considering herself an advocate for the people, she spends time volunteering at Carter Temple AME Church during its Youth Week. A published poet, shes also uses poetry readings to mentor youth. Although young people have been a focus, Jackson has also contributed to helping out the elderly. A paralegal by trade, she has served as a volunteer with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago (LAF) where she has put her formal training to work in helping elderly citizens recover lost public assistance payments. LAF provides free civil legal assistance to tens of thousands of low-income and elderly individuals in Chicago and suburban Cook County.
Whether its the young or the old, Jackson is unsure of how many people she has helped, but acknowledges that when she provides service, she gives it her all adding, I can't even begin to count the number of people I've helped along my journey or even those who've helped me along mine. I do know that each person whos reached out to me, I've given them nothing shy of 100% of my efforts to assist them along their path.
