CBS Reruns, Reality Elsewhere Popular On TV
NEW YORK (AP) - There's little secret to what entertainment choices viewers want from the broadcast networks this summer: reruns on CBS and competition or reality shows elsewhere.
The Nielsen Co. said 12 of the 25 most popular prime-time programs last week were reruns of scripted dramas or comedies on CBS. Only one scripted program on another network cracked the list: an original episode of Law & Order: Los Angeles on NBC, which is burning off the since-canceled series.
Meanwhile, there were 11 competition or reality shows in the top 25 that aired on NBC, ABC and Fox. CBS had none (rounding out the top 25 was CBS' 60 Minutes, which usually airs recycled material in the summertime).
NBC was the most popular network during the week headed into July 4th, traditionally one of the slowest periods of the year.
