Illinois All Kids Starts New Income Limits

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois health insurance program for children has implemented new income eligibility requirements.

Families who make more than 300 percent of the federal poverty level will no longer be eligible to enroll their children in All Kids. That's about $67,000 for a family of four.

The limit took effect Friday, but children already enrolled in All Kids will continue to receive coverage, regardless of family income, for one year. Families must continue to pay premiums and meet other requirements.

Legislation signed by Gov. Pat Quinn in January changed the program.

Department of Healthcare and Family Services Director Julie Hamos says families above the income cutoff can look for children's health insurance in the private market.

The year-old national health care law requires insurers to cover children, regardless of pre-existing conditions.
