Why does she stand out?
Mitchells role as assistant director of the Dreamz Youth Foundation is an around the clock effort; however, she is always ready to rise to the occasion.
Every day my phone is always ringingWe are constantly helping our youth with anything from a bus card, outfits, a ride or just a lending ear, she said.
She co-found Dreamz Youth Foundation in 1999 with her mother. The foundations mission is to mentor inner city youth through artistic expression including fashion, poetry, and dance.
The foundation recently held its 2nd annual Swag the Runway fashion show, which is the organizations hallmark event. Dreamzs youth members supervise every aspect of the show from the music selection to stage design and choreography.
Mitchell says that her mentees are extremely talented and she guides their self-expression. Moreover, she assists them in displaying their talents for others. Their gift is already within them, I have the knowledge and experience to assist them in bringing it out and showcase their talent in our communities, she said.
