Jet Engine Business Booming For Pratt & Whitney
by Stephen Singer
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Jet engine maker Pratt & Whitney is soaring on the improving economy and a rush of orders for its next-generation engines.
In the last five weeks the subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. has announced orders of 300 engines from Indian budget airline IndiGo, 30 for Lufthansa and 60 for Airbus planes purchased by a subsidiary of American International Group.
Pratt & Whitney is also the sole manufacturer of the Pentagon's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jet engine now that Congress has halted an alternate engine developed by General Electric Co.
