AOL site Going.com to shut down
SAN FRANCISCO - Going.com, an AOL Inc.-owned local events website, is on its way out.
In a notice to site visitors, Going co-founder Roy Rodenstein and the Going staff said it is "going away" Sunday, May 1 "as part of AOL's refocusing." Upon closing, Going.com will move to two other AOL properties: Moviefone, a movie site, and Patch, which runs community news sites.
AOL bought Going.com and Patch in 2009 for less than $10 million apiece, hoping to increase its reach in the local Web content market.
