Why does she stand out?
Bitoy Jackson has volunteered in many capacities over the last twenty years. Some of the organizations she has worked for include: National Forum for Black Public Administrators, National Association of Black Journalists, Chicago State Universitys Alumni Association and Latino Youth, Inc.
More recently, she has worked as a volunteer with the Glass Slipper Project. The Glass Slipper Project is a non-profit organization that provides free prom dresses and accessories to high school juniors and seniors in the Chicagoland area. Volunteers for the Glass Slipper Project assist students in selecting prom dresses and work as seamstresses.
Volunteerism is essential because, Within the Black community, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience, Bitoy Jackson says. In essence, she believes these resources should be pooled to reach more people.
