CSU Faculty Runs For UP Trustee

Businessman and Assistant Dean for the College of Business at Chicago State University (CSU), Roosevelt Martin, Jr. is running for trustee of University Park (UP).
Martin is running for UP trustee to make a change in the community. He says there are not enough police and theres no grocery store in the village. The CSU faculty member believes he has the business experience to transform the area. We need to attract businesses and we need a person who has a [strong] economic [expertise], Martin said.
A resident of University Park for two years, Martin is a native of Chicagos west side.
Martin is the former Director of the Greater Southside Entrepreneurship Center, a member of the Illinois Entrepreneur Network and a Certified Business Specialist. He is recognized for awarding over $150,000 in grants to small businesses and has aided small businesses in leveraging over $20 million dollars in procurement contacts.
He also says that he began his career educating people in the community, now he believes he can use those same methods to educate University Park residents on their citizen rights and duties.
The father of six believes his business background gives him an upper hand in the trustees race.
On the Cook County Clerks website, Martin elaborated on his business experience in his candidate statement.
My qualificationscoupled with business acumen and Illinois legislature experience places me as a prime and perfect choice to enact policies and business ventures to move our village forward, Martin stated.
Martin is one of eleven other contenders running for three UP trustee spots. The other candidates include: Curtis McMullan, II, Elizabeth "Liz" Williams, Milton C. Payton, Theaplise"Theo" Brooks , Oscar H. Brown, Jr., Robert Travis, Rosemary K. Nettles, Steve Allen, Brenda K. Mitchell, Drueada Henry and Thomas Edward O'Brien, Jr.
