Gayle and Harrington Move CBA Forward

Gloria Gayle, vice presidentand branch manager of NationalCity Bank, on 8700 S. CottageGrove, and Vernon Harrington,general manager of Best Buy at87th and Lafayette Ave., were recentlyappointed as board membersof Chatham BusinessAssociation (CBA). WithGayles experience in financeand Harringtons experience inretail sales, they both hope tohave a positive impact on theCBA.

Gayle is a DePaul Universitygraduate and working towardsher MBA at Purdue Calumet.With over 20 years banking experience,her management experienceincludes an assignment inEast Chicago Indiana, which is asimilar market to the Chathamcommunity.

Gayle has also worked for FifthThird as a business banker, amanager for ABC Bank inChicago and First Suburban NationalBank in Maywood, IL.She has extensive experience insuccessfully penetrating and improvingurban markets. She ismarried and has two adult childrenand two grandchildren.

Gayle joined CBA after the ribboncutting of the National CityBank branch at 8700 S. CottageGrove on April 14. My goal isto educate through a financialliteracy standpoint, Galye said.Some people have been shutout of the community.

She wants CBA to focus on decreasingcrime in the community.There is a need to dosomething to stop the crime,she said.

Harrington is a general managerat Best Buy on 87th andLafayette Ave. He graduatedfrom Chicago Vocational HighSchool and grew up in the SouthShore area.

Harrington has worked in retailmanagement for 13 years. Priorto Best Buy, Harrington workedat Lowes Home Improvementand in the Sams Club divisionat Walmart. He has been a managerfor Best Buy for 3 and years.

Harrington joined CBA to builda network with Best Buy on thesouth side of Chicago when hebecame general manager. He hasbeen a member of CBA for ayear and a half. He worked withCBA Juniors at the second annualyouth job fair at ICE theatersrecently where heintroduced the companies whowere offering summer jobs.

Harrington wants to prepareyouth for employment throughprograms with CBA Juniors.We should work on a shared vision,he said. One individualcannot do it all by themselves. Itis up to all of us to be on thesame page and to keep growingtogether.

Harrington plans to bring astronger community focus toCBA and to help membersstrengthen their businesses.
